Sculptural Menagerie Adorns Rose Garden

Take a walk in the castle rose garden. Among the blooms, you’ll find a temporary exhibit of 35 statues depicting animals. It’s part of the Czech-German project Sculpture Summer.

The exhibit, on view in the Rose Garden until September 28, includes works from classic modernism to the present day and is part of a cross-border project between partner cities Decin (CZ) and Pirna (DE).

Sculpture Summer is nothing new for visitors to the castle; it returns to Decin for the fourth year. In Pirna, the statuary exhibit is located in the Baroque bastions of the castle fortress Sonnenstein, whereas the Decin portion of the exhibit is installed in the Rose Garden. Of course, the project is more than just an art exhibit in a beautiful setting. An important component is a children’s project with the theme of coming together. On mutual exchange stays, students will not only come together but, in Czech-German pairs, can try creating their own artwork.
