Up the Shepherd's Wall

The Shepherd's Wall is one of the places from where you will have one of the most beautiful views of the whole of Děčín. You can get there both by car and of course on foot. If you prefer easy hiking, you can drive to the parking lot of the zoo. From there, you will walk for about five minutes along an asphalt road, at the end of which you will reach the desired viewpoint. On the other hand, if you want to take a smaller hike, the best route is from the Elbe Embankment, on the left bank of the Elbe River. The red marked route will lead you along a stone path to the top of the wall.

No matter how you climb the Shepherd's Wall, you will be treated to a magical view of the Elbe Valley, the castle and the town itself. In the summer season, there is even a bistro where you can have a snack or cool down with a good drink.

Those who came to the top by car return the same way. For pedestrians, there are more options. You can continue along the red trail that runs along the rock ridges. On this route, you will be offered more nice views of the surrounding nature and the town. The trail will take you up to a rock outcropping from which you will again have a great view, this time of a completely different part of Děčín.

From the rock outcropping, follow the red trail, which will lead you through the rock paths past the palouk with a playground to the zoo. From here, three paths lead down to the Elbe. You can go back to the Shepherd's Wall and follow the same path to the Elbe Embankment that you took before. Or you can use another of the paths along the sandstone cliffs of the Shepherd's Wall and enjoy the views of the river and the castle. The last of the trails leads along the access road to Teplice Street.

The whole circuit is an easy walk of about three kilometres, which is also lined with many resting places. The trip is ideal for families with children and Nordic Walking enthusiasts. There are special routes marked out for them in the forest park.

In addition, there is a nature trail in the Shepherd's Wall area that will help you learn about the importance of ecosystem services in the city.
