Wolf Mountain

Wolf Mountain

At an altitude of 581 metres above sea level is the peak of Vlčí hora with a four-sided lookout tower of the same name. It is even the oldest lookout tower in the Šluknov foothills. The existence of a medieval forest glassworks has even been proven in its vicinity. Wolf Mountain is exceptional for one more thing. The forested basalt hill contains a magnetovec, which deviates the compass needle by up to 40 degrees.

The lookout tower is located about 5 kilometres from Krásná Lípa. If you are travelling by car, you can leave it in the free parking lot in the village of Vlčí hora, directly below the hill with the lookout tower. From there, a yellow marked trail leads for less than a kilometre. At the top, you will have an incredible view of almost the entire Bohemian Switzerland, the Lusatian and Ore Mountains and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

In the case of public transport, this area is less accessible. We recommend that you take the train to Krásná Lípa, from where the mostly red-marked route runs for about 6 kilometres. If it is too far for you, you can take bus number 404 or 434 from Krásná Lípa to the village of Dlouhý Důl. From there it is only 3 kilometres to Vlčí hora.
