Dresden, in neighboring Germany, is a popular destination for a day trip. Nestled between the Lusatian and Ore mountain ranges on the River Elbe and bursting with Baroque architecture, this Saxon city is known as Germany’s Florence on the Elbe.
Getting to Dresden is easy by rail, by car, or by boat.
If you choose a river cruise, you'll enjoy a unique view of the dramatic sandstone canyon, charming vineyards, and historic gems such as Königstein, Pirna, Rathen, and Wehlen. Riverboat cruises feature live music and food service. Make your base in Decin and incorporate this unique experience into your travel plans. Recommended for all romantics and amateur photographers.
If you choose to go by train, you can use your Elbe/Labe pass for the trip as well as on the trams and buses in Dresden, and on ferries in the whole Saxon Switzerland region. The pass is valid until 4:00 am the following day.
One of Dresden's main attractions in wintertime is the Striezelmarkt, the city's famous Christmas market with its delicious Christmas stollen.
The town center, with all of its sights, is easily walkable. And the atmosphere, day and night, will win you over.
