Decin’s Culture and Tourism Center, in conjunction with JSDH Decin III – Old Town presents a traditional May Day Eve bonfire with all the trappings.

The evening before May Day was historically believed to be a time when witches took to the skies. People gathered to light bonfires and that's how the tradition has come down to us today.

Starting at 4 pm there will be a bonfire and several smaller campfires going on the riverside by the Decin Castle bluff. A refreshment stand will serve food and drink and visitors can buy their own wiener (with trimmings) to roast on the fire. Roasting forks and drink cups are available for a 50 CZK deposit each. So don’t forget to bring some pocket change.

We’ll have a fire crew on hand to keep things under control. At 5pm the highlight of the program will take place - burning of an effigy of a “witch” in keeping with the old custom.
