Hopes are high for reopening of Edmund Gorge

The gorge has been closed for extensive maintenance following a major wildfire in 2022. Now the Hrensko town council is planning its partial reopening to welcome the first visitors back in the spring. This unique tourist destination is best known for its popular boat tours.

Work has been going nonstop on restoration of the gorge. Last autumn, in the interest of flood prevention, trees were removed that would block Kamenice River if they fell. Currently, city workers are cleaning hiking paths and installing railings. "We would like to open in a limited capacity. The most important thing for us is safety, both of employees and tourists," said Hrensko mayor Katerina Horakova.

According to estimates, groups of tourists with guides could return to the gorge around Easter. Another section of the river gorge, Wild Gorge, should be open to visitors in early April.

We'll keep you posted as the situation develops.
